Frequently Asked Questions
Why is this vehicle smaller and lighter?
The NHS has a target net zero by 2030. Every NHS organisation must reduce their carbon emissions. Along with requiring the purchase of only electric vehicles from 2030, NHS Trusts must reduce or carbon emissions and this is one step towards that.

There have also been several frontline colleagues who have been unable to be fully operational as they don’t hold a C1 licence. This vehicle can be driven with a UK B-class licence.
How will the navigation screen work?
This vehicle will fit into the national MDVS (Mobile Data and Vehicle Solution) programme which means it will be fitted with the new National Mobilisation Application (NMA) screens and system.
The Ford features a large screen, and it has been integrated with the MDVS system into this screen where you can change between vehicle functions and NMA with a button.
Are the vehicles speed restricted?
Yes, this vehicle has its speed restricted to a maximum of 70mph when not driving under emergency conditions. Activating the emergency warning systems (blue lights and sirens) will remove the speed limiter.
Why some vehicles different colours?
Ambulance standards (CEN1789:2020) state that the base colour can be Yellow or White. External factors such as availability can be a factor to be considered as yellow-chassis vehicles have longer lead times for procurement.
What will future ambulances be like?
NHS England are soon to release the new national specification (Version2) which will be specific about how ambulances will look and be built. This will provide trusts with greater buying power with vehicle converters and reduce workloads for individual trusts, however, this will mean that individual organisations will be limited in their ability to customise vehicles.
